How to apply for a grant or charitable donation from AbbVie UK
Guidance for Applicants
AbbVie is committed to having a remarkable impact by going beyond medicines. If you would like to apply to AbbVie for a grant or charitable donation, please review the following guidance for applicants before submitting your application.
Eligibility for grants
Our grants are awarded to health, science, learning and community-based projects undertaken by Healthcare Organisations or Charitable Institutions. Please see the definitions below for further information on what constitutes a Healthcare Organisation and Charitable Institution.
All eligible applications are reviewed by an impartial Committee and we aim to notify all applicants on the outcome of their application directly and in a timely fashion. The Committee meets five times a year and reviews all eligible applications received.
Applications deemed ineligible:
- Requests over our maximum award level of £10,000
- Funding requests that are for projects/initiatives outside of the UK
- If funding has been received in the last two years
- Requests for medical equipment or general support for an NHS organisation
- Medical education events or symposia aimed professional audiences (ones intended for patients should sit outside of this)
- Requests to support projects and initiatives with a clinical focus outside of our core therapeutic areas
- Funding for salary and core operating costs are not permitted. Applications should benefit an institution or group of individuals, not an individual only
- Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider incomplete application forms
How to apply
Interested parties can download the application form below which contains further details and relevant criteria, which also reflects the requirements of the ABPI Code of Practice and relevant AbbVie policies and governance obligations.
In order to give your application the best chance of success, applicants should consider the following guidance:
- Provide a full breakdown of funding
- If you are applying for a charitable donation, please provide your registered charity number
- Consider how your application enhances patient care, furthers health aims or has a community or educational aspiration
- Given the high volume of applications we receive and our desire to support as many good causes as possible, it is a general preference of the Committee to provide funding to specific defined initiatives, activities or projects
- Please note that your application is only considered formally approved once you have received communication confirming as such
- All requests must be for a prospective activity/purpose and for a single financial year (April-March), with no commitment for continued funding beyond that year.
Funding in any given calendar year is limited and only projects where the content of the project is wholly controlled by an independent organisation and where AbbVie has no input or influence over the content are eligible.
Please note that grants and donations to Healthcare Organisations cannot be exclusively linked to the use of AbbVie products and the application form must be independently completed.
Application deadlines
All eligible applications are reviewed by an impartial Committee and we aim to notify all applicants on the outcome of their application directly and in a timely fashion. The Committee meets 4 times a year and reviews all eligible applications received.
Applications are reviewed from February to October only. Any application received following the 30 September cut-off will be reviewed the following year if applicable.
Deadlines for 2025 applications to be submitted are:
- 31 January
- 30 April
- 31 July
- 30 September
Please note, in line with applicable policies and obligations we will make public declarations about any relevant grant/donation to a Healthcare Organisation or Charitable Institution that we have engaged with to provide financial support. This includes, but is not limited to, declarations on this website.
