How Colleagues Support Their Wellbeing Through Vitality at AbbVie in the UK

Supporting wellbeing is about more than offering resources. It's about creating opportunities for people to connect, learn and look after themselves throughout their careers. That's the role that the Vitality employee resource group (ERG) plays at AbbVie, bringing colleagues together through events, initiatives and activities that support wellbeing.

Wellbeing looks different for everyone. For Chris, it meant finding a community through AbbVie's Run Club. For Helen, it became part of a morning fitness routine. For Katherine, it created opportunities to pause, recharge and prioritise wellbeing. Their experiences reflect the many ways colleagues engage with Vitality, AbbVie's employee resource group focused on employee wellbeing. Through activities, events and initiatives including running, fitness, yoga and Pilates, Vitality helps colleagues across AbbVie in the UK support their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing throughout the year.

Building connection through AbbVie’s Run Club

One of our most popular Vitality clubs is our AbbVie in UK Run Club. Founded following strong interest from colleagues, the first official run took place in Maidenhead in June 2026 and has since grown into a community rooted in inclusion, wellbeing and connection.

What started as a simple lunchtime run has grown into one of Vitality's most popular colleague-led activities. Open to all abilities, the Run Club brings people together to exercise, connect and support one another.

It's great to see that AbbVie Vitality goes beyond acknowledging difference. It celebrates it. This has given me the confidence to bring my true self to work.

Regular lunchtime runs, shared routes and different pacing options give colleagues of varying experience levels the opportunity to take part.

State-of-the-art gym on premises enables workout before work

Colleagues based at the Maidenhead office have 24-hour access to an onsite gym, making it easier to build physical activity into the working day. The facility includes cardio equipment, resistance equipment, free weights and changing facilities.

For Helen Brown, Brand Communications & Patient Relations Manager, access to the onsite gym has become a valued part of her morning routine.

Having access to the onsite gym has made a real difference to my wellbeing, and it's become a regular part of my morning routine. It’s a great way to stay active”

Helen Brown
Brand Communications and Patient Relations Manager

Helen also took part in the AbbVie in Motion challenge, a global initiative that brought teams together to track physical activity and compete with colleagues from around the world, creating motivation and a strong sense of connection across the organisation.

For many colleagues, the onsite gym provides a practical way to make physical activity part of their regular routine, whether before work, after work or during the day.

Creating space to move and reset with Yoga and Pilates sessions

Vitality also provides access to free yoga, Pilates and guided stretching sessions led by an external instructor. Sessions are designed to be accessible for colleagues with different levels of experience.

For Katherine Kirsop-Smith, MA Marketing Access Lead, what makes the difference, she says, is having real and accessible opportunities to step away, reset, and reconnect, not as a treat, but as an expected and encouraged part of the week.

It may sound like a cliché, but I genuinely feel fortunate. These spaces help me feel supported in every aspect of my wellbeing, not just the work side of life

Katherine Kirsop-Smith
Market Access Lead

Since joining AbbVie, Katherine has embraced a wide range of activities: Vitality’s run club, book club, pilates, yoga, and netball when she first arrived. The breadth of what is on offer reflects a culture in which wellness is an integral part of AbbVie life.

A well-being culture that supports everyone

Chris, Helen and Katherine's stories demonstrate that wellbeing is personal. Whether it's joining colleagues for a lunchtime run, fitting in a gym session before work or taking time to reset through yoga and Pilates, each has found their own way to engage with Vitality. While their experiences are different, they share a common theme: having access to opportunities that support wellbeing, connection and healthy habits throughout the year.
